My kids are terrible eaters. And save the "they'll eat it if they're hungry enough" bologna- it's simply not true. Not with mine anyway- they will refuse to eat and then become hangry little monsters that follow me around and complain. At some point I stopped taking them out to eat as a result. BUT! I'm determined to expand their tiny little pallets so we are venturing out again. And I'm sharing because I secretly hope I'm not the only one who has been held hostage by chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese.
So here we go. I took the girls to our local Shake Shack this week and it was a HUGE success. I'd say 9 out of 10 stars for sure. We sat outside which is a huge bonus. Plus it overlooks Lake Killarney and has a small garden area to run around in. And there were ducks too. NINE OUT OF TEN.
1 hotdog to share
1 order of fries
1 shack burger for mom
1 chocolate shake
1 cookies and cream shake
Now, I know what your thinking- she wants to expand her kids pallets and feeds them hotdogs and fries?! Yes. I am. We are that limited. Just go with it, okay?
Bill ate her hotdog half and was satisfied. Bud ate most of hers. (Side note: I still cut their food into little bites after Bill choked 4 years ago on a hard candy. I'm talking full Heimlich, screaming for help, traumatizing stuff. So I will cut until they go to college. Sorry not sorry.) Both tried my burger and deemed it "not gross" which was a HUGE BONUS. We split the side of fries (only one size) and didn't finish it. The only thing that kept it from being a perfect lunch was that the shakes don't come in kid's size. Shakes are one size only and way too big for kids.
Truth be told this was a super encouraging experience for me. I know they won't all be like this and that I will eventually end up leaving a restaurant frustrated with two hungry kids and going through a drive through on the way home. But for now I'm into this.
