August Check-In

How often do you check in with yourself? To sit and ask yourself- 'how you doing, girl?' I don't do it nearly as often as I should. So in an effort to be more intentional I thought it would be fun to start a monthly feature to do just that. Feel free to join in and leave me a link in the comments if you do so I can read yours. 

1. Favorite part of last month: The Wild Hearts Conference! Spending two days completely living your dreams out loud can give you a real high on life. It was magical and challenging all at the same time and I LOVED IT. Also, when I got back from New York my babies were angels (I think they missed me) so that was pretty awesome too.

2. Lesson learned last month: I have a lot to say about the conference but will save most of it for a big recap... eventually. But one thing that really stuck was that if we are numbing part of our pain that chances are we are numbing more then just that one spot (Thanks Ruthie). My most painful spot/deepest place of shame is my kid's life after divorce. I have definitely avoided talking about it or really even feeling it because the pain can be overwhelming. So I'm going to try to bring some of that to light because, as my friend Alex beautifully said, shame can't survive in the light.

3. One thing I want to do this month: School starts back up in 11 days PRAISE BEYONCE. I am so ready to establish some new routines and get back to some old ones. I started working from home about a week before school got out so I haven't really had the opportunity to establish REAL routines with this new creative job. So one thing I want to do is carve out a little morning relaxation/meditation time. Pretty excited about it.

4. One thing I want to stop doing this month: I want to stop putting off my health. I was in really good shape last summer LIKE REALLY GOOD SHAPE. Then that all went down the toilet during the holidays because duh. Now, I'm not one of those people who has to be in tip top shape or whatever but now that I'm in my 30's (ouch) I notice some real health stuff that starts to suck when I put on weight. So I want to stop making excuses and start taking care of myself again. 

Ok- I think that's it for now. Funny side note- I was feeling a little down when I started this. Definitely experiencing some "feeling sorry for myself" vibes BUT this little recap gave me a reality check that things really aren't so bad. Now it's your turn! Hope you can get some clarity on your situation too.
